The Globe and Mail:

"Dung and science"

Britain's Guardian newspaper reports:

That country's Science Museum has announced plans to use visitors' excrement to generate electricity -- it will be enough to power 15,000 light bulbs.
During a two-year expedition to Mars, a crew of six astronauts can generate more than six tons of waste. The current protocol is to ship the feces back to Earth. However, NASA is funding research to create a membrane microbial fuel cell that will recycle the excrement into drinking water, fertilizer and electricity."
